In the past two months, the group has seen Isobel and Phil successfully defending their PhD thesis and Connor joining the team...It is always a great honour to see PhD students graduate after 3 or 4 years of very hard work in the group and fly the nest. It is also a great satisfaction to know that they were both able to find a job straight after their PhD, a true recognition of their talents and we wish them both all the best...Sharing a glass of prosecco on Teams is nice but we look forward to some more celebrations, when physically allowed.
Whilst some leave, others embark on a similar journey and it was a huge pleasure to welcome Connor into the team...you will surely hear a lot more from him in the coming years as his project develops. Watch this space!

The group have been keeping busy and doing our best to stay in touch and network over lockdown. Phil and Isobel have been writing up their theses, Elena and Yunus have finished their masters programmes, Tom, Alfie, Loukia, Rob and Danny are all back in the lab doing experiments, and Sylvain, Rob and Loukia are presenting at virtual conferences this autumn (microTAS, Sensors in Medicine, and Oligo).

This year for our group Christmas party, we visited the Winter Wonderland at Hyde park, the Wellcome Collection museum and finished off the day with dinner and margaritas at Mestizo. We can thoroughly recommend all three this Christmas.

Congratulations to Phil and Suraj who have both had a review article published in the past 2 months in Analyst and CHIMIA. The first one is a comprehensive review on the many ways to detect microRNAs electrochemically, the second one describes the main avenues for translating the concept of oligonucleotide-templated reactions into a useful sensing device.

Congratulations to Dana and Paolo for some great work on hydrogel-filled nanopipettes for single-molecule sensing and size-profiling of small (down to 100bp) double-stranded DNA. Now published in Nano Letters and the result of a great collaboration with Joshua Edel and Aleksandar Ivanov. Watch this space at this is only the start of a very promising project!!

Congratulations to Gavin who had his paper accepted in Analytical Chemistry.
It was also highlighted as ACS editors' choice, a distinction given each day to only one article chosen between all ACS journals. This is also our first joint paper with our friends and colleagues from the department of Surgery and Cancer.
